As a Continuous Improvement consultant at the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG), you will join a diverse and forward-thinking team dedicated to delivering meaningful change across the organisation. The team leads on projects that improve operational processes and enhance the services we deliver to our users. Working collaboratively with colleagues across OPG, you will support the design, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based improvements that drive efficiency, quality, and user satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

  • Work with the Continuous Improvement Team within POAS to ensure that those being impacted by change are involved and consulted to ensure change is introduced effectively.
  • Be highly organised and able to work on multiple projects within a tight timescale.
  • Manage project progress against agreed plans and ensure that outcomes are aligned to business needs.
  • Support policy implementation for POAS and wider OPG Teams.
  • Support a culture of evidence and user-based change across the business, working across all levels of teams and staff to analyse and understand performance.
  • Support and contribute to the aims, objectives and performance of POAS and wider OPG Teams.
  • Conduct process-mapping workshops to visualise process flows and interdependencies across teams.
  • Work with internal teams to identify areas where business improvement is required.
  • Identify and evaluate risk and benefits associated with change activity.
  • Ensure that project documentation is maintained and kept up-to-date.
  • Collate documents to report key achievements to the governance board.
  • Continue to develop your own professional skills.
  • Positively promote and implement diversity and equality of opportunity in all areas of work.

Agreed expectations

The successful candidate will be expected to work from their base location on a weekly basis in line with current Civil Service requirements, outside of any reasonable adjustments. This role may involve occasional travel to Nottingham Embankment House. The MoJ offers Hybrid Working arrangements where business need allows. This is an informal, non-contractual form of flexible working that blends working from your base location, different MoJ sites and/or from home (please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas). All employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in an office, subject to local estate capacity. Some roles will not be suitable for Hybrid Working. Similarly, Hybrid Working will not suit everyone’s circumstances. Arrangements will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate(s) and subject to regular review.

Flexible working hours

The Ministry of Justice offers a flexible working system in many offices. Standard full-time working hours are 37 hours per week. MoJ welcomes part-time, flexible and job-sharing working patterns, where they meet the demands of the role and business needs. All applications for part-time, flexible and job-sharing working patterns will be considered in accordance with the MoJ’s Flexible Working policy.

Assessment and selection

We will assess your experience for this role via the following methods: Statement of Suitability, Interview stage assessments, Interview Dates (Interviews are expected to take place in the New Year; Mid-End January 2026). Behaviours: Changing and Improving, Communicating and Influencing, Seeing the Big Picture. Strengths will be assessed but these are not shared in advance.

Level of security checks required: DBS Standard. Lead criteria at sift stage will be: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to engage, negotiate and willingness to challenge stakeholders when needed. Ability to work with minimal supervision and committed to give a high-quality performance in all aspects of the role. Ability to problem-solve through the collating and analysis of information. Experience of using Microsoft packages including Word, Excel, Outlook, Vision, Skype, Teams and other digital tools. Experience of implementing or being involved in a change initiative.

Desirable skills

  • Knowledge of CI tools and how to apply them appropriately.
  • Experience of conducting process-mapping workshops, identifying issues, risks and benefits.
  • An understanding of Change Management methodologies and tools, e.g. Lean Six Sigma.
  • Have a genuine interest in Continuous Improvement and to be looking to develop your career with us.
