As the Prison Digital & Communications Manager, the job holder will play a key role in driving the future of digital services and technology in prisons and helping to modernise the prison service. The role includes managing digital and technology user adoption and engagement on site, planning and producing high‑quality local digital communications content, and leading a small team.

Responsibilities

  • Local Digital Communications Management: Define local communication requirements, build a roadmap for local digital content, create high‑quality written, visual and audio content, brand local prison communications, adhere to government and industry guidelines, and review analytics to evaluate success.
  • Prison Digital Services & Technology Management: Deliver site‑level digital and technology performance targets, prepare monthly reports on issues, risks and opportunities, contribute to national digital and technology roadmaps, and support the design and delivery of new services.
  • User Management: Manage staff within the digital change network, build knowledge, keep them engaged, train them to support current and future programmes, and lead engagement, support and training for staff and residents.
  • Operational Security: Advise and advocate device‑related guidance, reduce improper use of devices and intentional damage, and communicate policies to residents and staff.
  • Team Leadership: Lead daily stand‑ups, attend prison morning meetings, conduct monthly operational reviews, attend hub team meetings, and facilitate digital change network meetings.

Qualifications

  • Experience managing digital and technology service adoption and engagement within a prison or similar environment.
  • Proven ability to manage a small team (1–2 direct reports) and deliver training and engagement programmes.
  • Strong writing, audio and video communication skills; experience filming and editing audio and visual content.
  • Experience in content planning, use of content management systems and project management.
  • Knowledge of digital and technology platforms used in a secure environment.
  • Fluency in English; Welsh may be an advantage where specified.
