The Community Payback Supervisor is an operational role directly supervising work groups of offenders serving a community sentence in Bicester, Oxford. The role involves driving service vehicles to transport people or equipment and all work site supervision tasks to ensure all tasks are carried out to a high standard.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and motivate offenders during up to 7 hours per day of unpaid work placement.
- Coordinate and support the team to complete manual tasks such as clearing overgrowth, restoring community facilities, planting trees or laying flowerbeds, litter picking, and graffiti removal.
- Conduct work-site supervision, ensuring all safety, quality, and progress standards are met.
- Drive service vehicles to transport people or equipment as required.
- Maintain accurate records of work time, tasks completed, and progress of offenders.
- Plan and manage work schedules, including weekend and, where required, evening shifts.
Working Pattern & Pay
Standard working hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The role requires a fixed start and finish each day and includes weekend work (both Saturday and Sunday each week with alternative weekday days agreed). Weekend hours carry a higher rate of 50% additional pay. Starting salary is £28,064, with potential progression through the Competency Based Framework and annual pay increases in line with Civil Service guidance.
Requirements
- Full UK Manual Driving Licence – automatic licence holders will not be considered.
- Right to work in the UK (including relevant visa status – note that as of 22 July 2025 the role cannot sponsor a new Skilled Worker Visa, but applicants with existing prior to that date may be eligible).
- Good communication skills, empathy, and the ability to lead small teams.
- Experience supervising offenders or similar responsibility is preferred but not mandatory; the role will be assessed against the Civil Service Success Profile.
