Overview
Our Crown Court Clerks are essential to ensure Crown Court hearings run smoothly.
They speak in court, communicate confidently with judges and all participants, and produce accurate and timely court documents.
Responsibilities
- Speak publicly in court and liaise with judges, defence, prosecution, media and the public.
- Produce accurate court orders, recording hearing outcomes and conduct arraignments.
- Manage operations of daily Crown Court sittings and intervene in court when required.
- Provide leadership, set clear direction, and support team to deliver excellent customer service.
- Maintain and improve the quality of service experience for justice users.
- Travel to Southend Crown Court as required.
Qualifications
- Proactive communicator with experience in court settings.
- Strong organisational, prioritisation and documentation skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- IT proficiency and ability to learn new systems and technology.
- Ability to motivate and support a team, with experience delivering quality service.
- Resilient, multi‑tasking, and capable of handling complex and sensitive matters.
- Working Arrangements
Full‑time, 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, office based at Basildon Crown Court with regular travel to Southend Crown Court.
Hybrid working is available but requires a minimum of 60% time in the office at a Ministry of Justice building (HQ, JCC or JSO).
Licence to work in the UK is a legal requirement.
Skilled Worker visas are not eligible for new sponsors.
