This is a catering role within a prison kitchen where you will supervise offenders in preparing and cooking meals and support their skill development.

Hours and Salary

37‑hour week with shift patterns outside 7am‑7pm, Monday‑Friday, weekends and public holidays. 20% unsocial hours payment added to base pay. Band 3 salary: £34,928 – £36,778 inclusive of unsocial hours allowance. New recruits start at the minimum.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the preparation and cooking of quality, nutritional meals for the entire prison.
  • Support offenders in learning new skills and gaining qualifications to improve employment prospects and reduce reoffending.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety and hygiene regulations within an industrial kitchen environment.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Level 2 certificate in food production within hospitality and catering or equivalent.
  • Level 2 food hygiene certificate.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with current health, safety and hygiene regulations for kitchen work.
  • Able to demonstrate competency within an industrial kitchen environment.
  • Confident spoken English.

Training and Development

Provides training in areas such as Equality and Diversity, Dealing with Challenging Behaviour, Suicide Prevention, Anti‑Bullying Programmes, plus security and diversity induction.
