Overview

Magistrates Court Admin staff are responsible for the management of the criminal digital files in preparation for hearings. You will be assigned to teams to carry out a variety of general administrative duties to progress cases through the court/tribunal system or provide support to other functions within HMCTS.

Responsibilities

  • Manage criminal digital files in preparation for hearings.
  • Book interpreters, host video links, and type orders.
  • Answer queries by phone, post or email from the judiciary, professionals or the public.
  • Carry out general administrative duties as part of a team to progress cases through the court/tribunal system or support other functions within HMCTS.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Friendly and approachable manner with excellent attention to detail.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Desire to deliver proactive and effective support to customers by phone and email.
  • Organisational skills with the ability to manage time, prioritise, multi-task and adapt to using various software packages.
  • Enjoy working in a busy environment and helping court users navigate the justice system.

Working Arrangements

  • Operational roles are customer facing and office-based to provide HMCTS services to the public.
  • Standard full-time hours: 37 hours per week. Part-time, flexible and job-sharing patterns will be considered in line with the MoJ Flexible Working policy.
  • Hybrid working arrangements may be available where business need allows, with minimum 60% of time spent in an office (subject to local estate capacity).
  • Location flexibility: posts may be allocated to a specific office base with potential to work at other HMCTS sites as required; travel costs/time may apply in line with policy.
  • Occasional travel to other Magistrates\’ Court sites may be required for cover.
  • Shift pattern includes Saturdays and public holidays (5 days over a 6 day pattern).

Immigration and Eligibility

The Department must comply with UK Immigration Rules. This role has visa sponsorship implications; please review eligibility criteria for Skilled Worker visas and right to work requirements as outlined in the posting.

Hybrid and Civil Service Arrangements

The MoJ offers a hybrid working model where business needs allow. Arrangements will be discussed with successful candidates and reviewed regularly. New entrants may be allocated to the nearest viable office to their home postcode, with pay scale aligned accordingly.
