We are recruiting prison officers for HMP Wymott under a futures scheme, with the first 23 months based at HMP Stocken. The role offers accommodation support, recruitment and retention bonuses and a paid monthly trip home.

Responsibilities

  • Protect the public and ensure the safety of prisoners, colleagues and the prison environment
  • Maintain peace and order while acting as a peacekeeper, counsellor or teacher as required
  • Build constructive and professional relationships with prisoners and support fellow officers as a team
  • Work various shifts and some weekends, covering evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays
  • Adhere to health and safety, medical and fitness assessment requirements

Qualifications & Requirements

  • At least 18 years old upon commencement of employment
  • Meet the Civil Service Nationality requirements (UK, Ireland, Commonwealth, EU/EEA, etc.)
  • Pass a medical, fitness, eyesight and hearing assessment
  • Ability to travel to and from the prison on time (own transport not required but beneficial)
  • Tattoos may be present provided they are not offensive, violent or intimidating; facial tattoos not allowed unless culturally, religious or medical
  • Strong communication, influencing and decision‑making skills
  • Commitment to teamwork and support for colleagues
  • Ability to speak and understand English (or Welsh in Wales)

Application Process

  • Complete the online application form.
  • Stage 1 online test – basic judgement and numerical skills.
  • Stage 2 online test – values‑based assessment.
  • Online assessment centre (OAC) – behaviour, strengths and numerical assessment.
  • Medical and fitness test covering eyesight, hearing and health screening. Successful candidates will be placed on a merit list for 12 months.
