The Youth Justice Worker role supports children and young people in custody. It is similar to a prison officer, but specifically focuses on the welfare, safety and supervision of young people.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day support and care for children and young people in custody.
  • Intervene in situations to ensure safety and wellbeing of the young people.
  • Oversee and facilitate safe movement around the site.
  • Supervise and assess the behaviour of young people to maintain order and security.
  • Work in partnership with other staff to deliver a high quality service for young people.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Age 18 years or older.
  • Meet the Civil Service nationality requirements.
  • Pass a DBS check.
  • Pass a medical and fitness assessment and meet eyesight and hearing standards.
  • Have suitable hearing without hearing aids and meet eyesight standard in both eyes (with or without corrective lenses).
  • Tattoos are permitted but must not be offensive, discriminatory, violent or intimidating (facial tattoos generally not acceptable, except for cultural, religious, or medical reasons).

Pay & Benefits

  • Initial training is 37 hours a week, with a choice of 37, 39 or 41 hours after training.
  • 37 hours a week: £33,746 per year
  • 39 hours a week: £35,875 per year
  • 41 hours a week: £38,003 per year
  • Benefits include 25 days annual holiday (rising to 30 days after 10 years of service), paid public holidays, an extra privilege day, Civil Service pension with employer contributions of 28.97%, cycle-to-work scheme, travel loans and other support.
