Role Overview

This role requires a full UK Manual Driving Licence; automatic licences are not accepted. The Community Payback Supervisor is an operational supervisory role that involves supervising work groups of offenders serving a community sentence and may include driving service vehicles to transport people or equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise up to 7 hours a day a group of offenders at Community Payback unpaid work placements.
  • Drive service vehicles to transport people or equipment.
  • Carry out all work site supervision tasks and work with service users to ensure all tasks are carried out to the best of their ability.
  • Work frequent weekend days and occasionally evenings as part of the normal pattern of working.
  • Support wellbeing by arranging breaks and rest in line with the pace of work.

Working Pattern & Pay

The role is accommodated for people with caring responsibilities and community payback projects run 7 days a week. Working frequent weekend days is expected, and a higher rate of 50% is paid for weekend work. The starting salary is £26,475 (pro‑rata) and is subject to annual pay progression through a Competency Based Framework (CBF).

Salary Progression

Annual pay progression is available through a Competency Based Framework (CBF); eligible employees can see their pay increase as competence grows. New entrants start on the minimum of the pay band, and pay band ranges are increased annually in line with Civil Service Pay guidance.

Qualifications & Eligibility

Applicants must hold a full UK Manual Driving Licence and possess the right to work in the UK and in the Civil Service. This role is not eligible for a new Skilled Worker visa. Applicants who held a Skilled Worker visa prior to 22 July 2025 may be considered for sponsorship; otherwise, other routes to maintain the right to work must be pursued.
