The PSO role within the Probation Electronic Monitoring team offers an excellent career development opportunity for individuals who are looking to work in a specialist team responding to regional and national priorities. The successful candidate will work in a high volume, dynamic environment where change is constant. Excellent interpersonal skills are required to enable effective partnership working across complex multi-agency settings. Candidates must also show a solid ability to assess and manage risk, undertake robust assessments, and maintain a high level of personal and professional resilience.

The London Electronic Monitoring Team is a high performing function overseeing effective monitoring of EM solutions. The team supports Probation Delivery Units to provide risk management and public protection to those at risk of custody. EM sentences offer an alternative to custody and elements of rehabilitation via a variety of EM options. The London EM team provides an interface with the external provider to communicate with key stakeholders which allows for timely enforcement to be delivered. The EM PSO role differs from that of a standard PSO role in that you will have limited/no contact with People on Probation; however, you will work alongside Probation Practitioners to ensure delivery and enforcement of EM is delivered to a high standard. You will receive full PSO training.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring of EM Orders from the point of sentence to completions.
  • Ensuring successful fitment of the EM equipment.
  • Completion of risk forms.
  • Completion of breach/report for Court.
  • Data analysis.
  • Stakeholder engagement.
  • Attendance at Court if necessary.

If you are successful in the recruitment process to join the Probation Service, your starting salary will be £26,475 (Pro-Rata for Part-Time roles). The Probation Service offers the opportunity for annual pay progression through a Competency Based Framework (CBF), which if eligible, will see your pay increase. CBF is designed to enable you to move up through the pay band range as your competence grows. New entrants are expected to join on the minimum of the pay band. Probation Service also increases their pay band ranges annually in line with Civil Service Pay guidance, which will also apply an increase to band pay ranges where applicable.

The job holder will undertake the full range of work with people on probation before and after sentence. This will include assessment, sentence implementation, offender management and producing reports. The job holder will provide case management support to a full range of people on probation utilising service procedures and practice directions that underpin professional judgement.

You must have the right to work in the UK. In accordance with current immigration rules, this role is not eligible for a new Skilled Worker visa. If you apply to be a probation services officer and you have not held a Skilled Worker visa prior to the 22 July 2025 changes, you will need to consider your options for obtaining and/or maintaining your right to work in the UK in light of these changes.
