You will work alongside a diverse group of offenders to help them complete community service tasks such as building benches, cleaning streets and restoring public spaces.

This is an operational role that directly supervises work groups of offenders serving a community sentence. The post holder may drive service vehicles to transport people or equipment and is responsible for all work‑site supervision tasks. Your main duties include ensuring that tasks are carried out safely and to the best of each participant’s ability, and modelling good practice where necessary.

Community Payback Supervisors work with a diverse mix of individuals and must be empathetic, a good communicator, and happy to take the lead. You will supervise and motivate small teams to complete unpaid work hours that help offenders pay back for the harm they have caused. Typical tasks include:

  • Clearing overgrowth to make public spaces safer
  • Restoring community facilities such as sports halls and playgrounds
  • Planting trees or laying flowerbeds
  • Litter picking and graffiti removal

On a typical day you may spend up to 7 hours supervising a group at a community payback placement.

The role runs 7 days a week, so frequent weekends and some evenings may be required. Weekend work is paid at a higher rate of 50%. Some regions offer part‑time options and you may discuss this at interview. Your wellbeing is important – rest breaks are flexible due to the fast pace of our work. In this fast‑paced environment, you will experience varied and active days, always learning and making a meaningful contribution while fully supported.

Starting salary: £26,475. Note: Community Payback Supervisors will be expected to work weekends as part of their normal pattern.
