The role

We’re recruiting a Lead Content Designer at Justice Digital, to be part of our warm and collaborative team in Probation Digital.

This role aligns to the Lead content designer role in the Government Digital and Data Framework.

In Probation Digitalwe are creating a world class digital-first probation service that reduces reoffending. We are working hard to solve challenges at the heart of our justice system with a probation service that is under increasing pressure. Our aim is to deliver simpler, better, faster digital services for frontline staff and people on probation.

As Lead Content Designer, you’ll work with peers to shape strategies, define processes that support a digitally enabled justice system. You’ll need to be responsive to change and a strong communicator.

You’ll take a high-level view of users’ content journeys through the justice system, identifying opportunities to increase design consistency, improve data quality, and deliver seamless, user-centred experiences.

You’ll advocate for content design and its practitioners, working strategically with senior civil servants and policy officials to improve content quality across Probation Digital.

You’ll support content designers in agile teams, guiding content strategy and quality across the user journey. You’ll use evidence, data, and research to inform decisions and influence others.

You\\\'ll be able to work independently when providing content consulting or training.

You’ll play an active role in the MOJ content design community, sharing best practice, contributing to cross-government work, and supporting the Head of Content Design.

Key responsibilities

  • Ensure Probation Digital content is user-focused, accurate, accessible, and aligned with design and style guidelines
  • Design and implement a high-level, multi-year, content strategy across Probation Digital to meet user and business needs, showing how content can help solve challenges
  • Identify and build strong relationships with subject matter experts and stakeholders, influencing and collaborating with them to improve the structure and quality of the content
  • Collaborate with leads across Probation Digital to define and implement effective ways of working to ensure delivery of high value services
  • Understand, scope and influence resourcing requirements, recruiting content designers at all levels
  • Work with colleagues to understand user behaviours and data patterns to improve how services perform
  • Advocate for the role of content designers and the value content design can bring, and embed content design practices into ways of working
  • Manage, support, and develop content designers
  • Act as a point of escalation and help to resolve issues
  • Support the Head of Content Design and the wider content discipline with reviews, development, and community meetings

Person specification

  • Essential
  • Experience developing organisation-wide content strategies that meet user and business needs
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience presenting content propositions and deliverables to organisation leads and stakeholders
  • Proven experience creating user-centred content for transactional digital services
  • Expert knowledge of agile delivery and user-centred design practices
  • Substantial experience in developing and supporting content design capability, including people management, recruitment, coaching and mentoring, and creating opportunities for learning and development.
  • Experience of leading in ambiguity, managing multiple priorities and adapting to change
