Navy Command - King\'s Harbour Master Plymouth - Vessel Traffic Services Manager (VTSM)

The King\’s Harbour Master (KHM) Plymouth is responsible, by Act of Parliament, for protecting the port of Plymouth for military use. This includes prioritising military activity when necessary, ensuring port safety, environmental protection, and maintaining business continuity for commercial harbours, facilities, and traffic within the port. The port handles approximately 4,000 large ship movements per year and operates a Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) to manage this volume of traffic.

The Vessel Traffic Services Manager (VTSM) is responsible for the safe and continuous management of vessel traffic management services in the Dockyard Port of Plymouth. This role is crucial for maintaining port safety, requiring appropriately qualified staff to monitor and operate the VTS effectively. The VTSM must possess strong people skills to manage watchkeepers and support their interface with port users, including military personnel and the general public.
