Join the Ministry of Defence Guard Service (MGS) to protect Defence from threats such as crime, terrorism, espionage, and sabotage by providing the highest quality of security services through professionalism, excellence, and trust. We are looking for a Security Supervisor to join our Gold Standard Security Service and play a crucial role in ensuring resilience, alertness, and organisation across high‑profile locations.
Working hours: 48 hours per week, 4 × 12 hour shifts or 5 × 9.6 hour shifts, scheduled between 0600 and 2200. Roster is flexible and may change short‑notice, but not less than 48 hours. All new starters will participate in a mandatory two‑week residential Foundation Course followed by on‑the‑job training and required annual online training.
Key responsibilities
- Manage all MGS Security Officers at the unit, ensuring overall protection of people, property, information and assets.
- Oversee daily supervision of work patterns and rosters, deploying officers per assignment instructions and the Joint Business Agreement/General Statement of Security Requirements.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with the Unit Head of Establishment, customer representatives and other security providers.
- Assist the Operational Manager in ensuring unit compliance with NSI and keeping documentation up‑to‑date.
- Operate and supervise security systems in line with standard operating procedures.
- Motivate security officers, maintaining performance integrity and fostering a positive inclusive environment; address concerns promptly.
- Respond to security concerns raised and work with first responders to manage incidents effectively following procedure.
- Visit other MGS units within reasonable distance to provide supervisory support and collaborate with employees and customers.
- Write reports on breaches of security and maintain daily logs.
- Communicate effectively with customers and refer complaints to the appropriate chain of command.
- Operate, monitor and supervise security systems such as CCTV, alarms, telephone and radio.

Security requirements
Successful candidates must undergo a criminal record check and meet the security check (baseline personnel security standard) before appointment.

- UK nationals.
- Nationals of the Republic of Ireland.
- Nationals of Commonwealth countries that have the right to work in the UK.
- Nationals of the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein, and their family members with settled or pre‑settled status under the European Union Settlement Scheme.
- Individuals with limited leave to remain or indefinite leave to remain who were eligible to apply for the EU settlement scheme on or before 31 December 2020.
- Turkish nationals and certain family members of Turkish nationals who have accrued a right to work in the Civil Service.
Experience & Qualifications
CV including job history and previous skills. Background or interest in site security and the ability to demonstrate customer service experience is required. Evidence of the above behaviours should be provided on the application form.
