Design System Lead (Contract or Full-Time)

Location: Remote / Flexible

We are seeking a Design System Lead with deep expertise in atomic, token-based design systems in Figma. This role can be structured as either contractor or full-time, depending on your availability and fit.

You will be responsible for building scalable, token-driven Figma web design systems that ensure consistency, accessibility, and efficiency across global brand projects.

Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain a token-based design system in Figma (colors, spacing, typography, grids, and motion tokens)
  • Leverage Figma variables to create scalable, adaptable design structures
  • Develop components, variants, auto layouts, and interactive prototypes for reusability and consistency
  • Lead the end-to-end design system implementation across multiple web projects
  • Partner closely with designers and developers to ensure seamless handoff and system adoption
  • Act as the subject matter expert on atomic design methodologies and design system best practices
  • Continuously refine the system to evolve with new features, technologies, and brand needs
  • Stay ahead of design tooling trends, variable management, and system scaling techniques
Qualifications
  • Expert-level experience in building atomic, token-based design systems in Figma
  • Advanced proficiency with Figma components, variants, auto layout, interactive prototyping, and variables
  • Experience creating scalable component libraries and design tokens for global web projects
  • Strong understanding of design tokens → code workflows (integration into HTML/CSS/JS)
  • Solid grasp of responsive design, grid systems, and accessibility standards (WCAG)
  • Strong understanding of typography principles and building type scales in design systems
  • Knowledge of motion principles and ability to define micro-interactions within systems
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, especially with developers and stakeholders
  • Attention to detail and consistency at scale
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently as well as collaboratively
  • Bachelor’s degree in Design (or equivalent professional experience)
