Overview
Miniclip is looking for a motivated and skilled Game Designer to join our Design team at our Derby Games Development Studio. This is a full-time, permanent position, working on a hybrid basis (minimum 2 days in-office per week). Please only apply if you have the right to work in the UK. Reporting to our Game Design Lead you will be joining a passionate and talented team dedicated to crafting world-class player experiences. We’re looking for a creative individual who is not only highly skilled but also genuinely enthusiastic about game design. In this role, you\’ll play a key part in shaping how players interact with our games. We’re constantly looking for ways to refine and elevate our game design, because we believe that even the smallest improvements can make a big difference for the millions of Miniclip players who enjoy our games every day. Responsibilities
- Design, prototype, and implement missions and level content for action / shooter gameplay.
- Build engaging moment-to-moment experiences with a strong focus on combat flow, pacing, clarity, and player readability.
- Work hands-on in Unity, using proprietary tools and editors to take content from concept through to final polish.
- Collaborate closely with designers, engineers, artists, and production to deliver gameplay content that meets quality and performance targets.
- Iterate on missions and levels based on playtesting, feedback, and player data.
- Create and refine gameplay content for live games, supporting regular updates and improvements.
- Communicate design intent clearly through documentation, visual layouts, and in-engine implementation.
- Learn and apply Miniclip’s approach to mobile free-to-play design, including engagement, retention, pacing, and monetisation considerations.
What we are looking for
- Professional experience as a Game Designer (or similar), with a strong focus on mission, level, or gameplay content creation.
- Experience working on action or shooter games, with a solid understanding of combat mechanics, player flow, and encounter design.
- Hands-on experience implementing gameplay or level content in Unity (or a comparable engine).
- An understanding of how moment-to-moment gameplay supports engagement and retention, especially in shorter play sessions.
- Interest in, or experience with, mobile and/or free-to-play games, and a willingness to design within those constraints.
- Familiarity with iterative development, including playtesting, tuning, and responding to feedback or data.
- Some exposure to live game development and post-launch content iteration, or a strong desire to work in that environment.
- Awareness of player psychology and mobile UX principles, particularly clarity, feedback, and readability in action gameplay.
- Clear communication skills and a collaborative mindset, comfortable working across disciplines.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage tasks and deliver content to deadlines.
- A portfolio or work examples that demonstrate solid gameplay or level design fundamentals, ideally within an action or shooter context.
