The Band 5 Therapy Radiographer will support the radiotherapy patient through the clinical and technical delivery of all radiotherapy tasks from referral to follow up. This will include immobilisation, localisation, planning, treatment delivery and patient assessment, management and care. The post holder will ensure the highest standards of treatment and care at all times.

PRINCIPAL AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
  • Implement safe and accurate high-energy radiotherapy treatment to cancer patients adhering to radiotherapy protocols and procedures.
  • Provide a continuum of care requiring complex technical skills in localisation, planning and dosimetry, verification and management of treatment processes.
  • Quality assurance and control tasks as required ensuring high-quality patient treatments and care.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team providing a high-quality radiotherapy service.
MANAGERIAL AND ORGANISATIONAL
  • Prioritise and manage own work.
  • Train, supervise and check the work of radiographers, admin and clerical staff within the department as appropriate.
  • Provide clinical radiotherapy support for other services and personnel within the Clinic to include, for example, consultant medical staff, physicist, technologists and nurses.
  • Keep all records, document and report work as appropriate.
  • Assist with projects as agreed with the Radiotherapy Services Manager.
  • Complying with quality assurance mechanisms to ensure the safe implementation of clinical developments and standard practice.
  • Undertaking post graduate clinical training and education within the department in line with clinical practice changes and developments.
CLINICAL, SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL
  • Competent with the technical and clinical aspects of radiotherapy as delivered within the Clinic.
  • Keep abreast of latest technical and scientific advancements within the radiotherapy field.
  • Participate in implementation of new technologies and service developments.
  • Maintain state registration with the HCPC.
POLICY, SERVICE DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION
  • Comply with applicable legislation and professional guidelines.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of clinical procedures, protocols and work instructions.
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
  • Support clinical research as required.
  • Participate in audit within clinical radiotherapy; including the use of audit and audit tools in order to deliver service improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in research in accordance with Ethics Committee approval, Clinical Governance criteria.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
  • Participate in instruction and training as commensurate with the role.
  • Training and professional develop radiotherapy staff and undergraduate students as needed.
PERFORMANCE OF DUTIES
  • Execute their duties courteously and professionally at all times and seek to ensure that the highest level of service is provided by the radiotherapy service.
