Are you looking to develop your Engineering career further?
Join our well-established and experienced Traffic Engineering Team. Contribute to technical decision-making that enables us to deliver effective and efficient traffic management solutions.
In these roles, you will collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders and professionals both within and outside the authority, including members of the public, local representative groups, elected members, contractors, and other partners. As an Engineer, your work will make a tangible difference to the community. A key focus will be continuing our excellent progress in reducing casualties on Wiltshires Road network by identifying high‑risk sites, analysing trends, and delivering practical solutions.
You will lead and supervise the design and delivery of traffic management measures aimed at improving road safety and network capacity across the highway network. This includes consulting on scheme options, considering stakeholder representations, and determining which projects to progress where multiple technical factors must be balanced. You will organise detailed designs of preferred schemes, ensuring statutory procedures are followed in line with current legislation, and make key design decisions to achieve optimal outcomes for all highway users.
The role involves planning and conducting inspections, surveys, assessments, and audits, identifying issues, developing solutions, and presenting recommendations to senior colleagues or managers. The post holder will collate, process, and analyse data using appropriate systems, ensuring accurate record management. They will assess situations and risks, propose compliant solutions, and mitigate potential hazards. Responsibilities also include arranging installations and supervising works on‑site, making swift decisions during construction to prevent delays.
Additionally, you will provide expert advice to members, councils, police, developers, consultants, and internal/external partners on traffic management issues, applying precedent and innovative thinking within legislative frameworks. You will evaluate traffic management proposals from developers and consultants, allocate and supervise staff and consultant resources for traffic engineering and road safety projects, and monitor performance and quality of contractors and consultants, representing the council in service delivery meetings to address quality concerns and agree remedial actions.
