As the Environmental Domain Lead, you will play a pivotal role in defining and delivering Environmental Engineering activities across the full project lifecycle. Working closely with cross-functional teams and external partners, you will lead the development and integration of Mechanical & Climatic (M&C) environmental requirements, supporting activities from concept and design through to proving, qualification, and certification. This is a highly visible technical leadership position, responsible for ensuring the Environmental Engineering domain remains coherent, controlled, and aligned across all functions within the programme.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Environmental (Mechanical & Climatic) Engineering domain across complex engineering projects
- Define and manage environmental engineering strategies, requirements maturation, proving plans, and certification activities
- Act as the focal point for all environmental engineering activities, ensuring alignment between design, analysis, testing, and qualification
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including ISV, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Analysis, Architecture, Quality, and external stakeholders
- Coordinate and chair environmental working groups to drive delivery against strategic programme objectives
- Provide technical leadership and delegation to a team of up to five engineers
- Oversee technical assurance activities relating to design integrity, environmental performance, development, proving, and qualification
- Manage domain-related risks, schedules, budgets, and delivery priorities
- Engage with senior stakeholders including Project Heads and Chief Engineers to resolve complex environmental engineering challenges
What we're looking for from you:
- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
- Proven experience of planning, managing, implementing & delivering strategies on time, on cost, on quality
- Proven management and delegation of work package budgets and associated risk
- Knowledge of environmental engineering within the defence sector or relevant industry
- Knowledge of the Mechanical & Climatic environments, and their applicability to different products at different life cycle stages
- An understanding of environmental test processes, test measurements and instrumentation
- Awareness of Environmental Engineering Standards (such as DEF STAN 00-035, Mil Std 810)
- An innovative mind set to develop methods around requirement definition and weapon system proving
- Working knowledge and experience using Project Management tools
- Experience of requirement definition and management using DOORS
