<p><b>London, Leeds or Stowmarket – (Hybrid, Office, Site)</b></p> <p><b>Permanent</b></p> <p><b>Competitive Salary + Car/Car Allowance + Flexible Benefits</b></p> <p><b>Summary</b></p> <p>Freedom Professional Services are seeking a <b>Senior Design Engineer (Protection & Control) </b>to join our growing team and work on an array of complex and challenging engineering projects, helping to deliver the country’s Net Zero targets. Our projects span the complete energy system from generation, transmission, distribution and storage to load-end consumers in manufacturing, processing, data and recycling.</p> <p>The successful candidate will be able to evidence a history of teamworking, career achievement, high-quality project and work experience to date, and can draw on their professional networks to gain key insights, new work leads, third-party support and second opinions. </p> <p><b>Some of the key deliverables in this role will include:</b></p> <ul> <li>Utilise the technical expertise in Transmission and Distribution protection and control specification and scheme design, coupled with ability to calculate protection settings for implementation, to drive our engineering efforts forward.</li><li>Unwavering confidence in technically assessing engineering problems and critically evaluating a range of technical solutions will be instrumental in pursuit of engineering excellence.</li><li>Exemplary communication skills to demonstrate diligence, prioritize tasks effectively, and ensure a thorough understanding of relevant legislation, including CDM and ESQCR. This knowledge will be pivotal in managing Transmission and Distribution network.</li><li>Creatively design substation Protection and Control/ SCADA/ Substation automation systems from 11kV up to 400kV using AutoCAD. This includes crafting Single Line Diagrams, AC & DC Schematic Drawings, Panel General Arrangements, Panel Wiring Diagrams, Switchgear Termination/interconnection drawings, Block Cable Diagrams/Schedules, and performing cable specification/sizing calculations.</li><li>Meticulously produce specifications & P&C logic drawings for substation Protection and Control / SCADA/ Substation automation systems from 11kV up to 400kV.</li><li>Efficiently generate PSL logic files and relay setting files for various relays.</li><li>Work will span both Greenfield & Brownfield substations, requiring flexibility and adaptability to work as per site condition/situation.</li><li>Collaborate closely with other designers, construction professionals, and engineering teams.</li><li>Liaise effectively with the Power Systems, Primary and Civil design departments to ensure that all objectives are met and that the best possible design is submitted.</li><li>Build strong relationships with external stakeholders, including the end client, other design houses and consultancies as well as other internal departments.</li><li>Ensure timely and budget-friendly delivery of work that meets the customer’s expectations.</li><li>Provide valuable support to operational staff and answer technical queries.</li><li>Engage proactively with internal and external clients and suppliers to answer technical queries.</li><li>Attend site/commissioning to resolve issues, answering site queries, TQs, RFIs, etc.</li><li>Review and provide constructive feedback on the reports and drawings done by Junior Engineers.</li><li>Mentor and guide Junior Engineers, fostering their professional growth.</li><li>Approver & Checker of Design / Studies done by others.</li><li>Adhere strictly to the company’s SHEQ requirements and GSOP, carrying out your roles and responsibilities with utmost dedication.</li><li>Manage a team of senior engineers and design engineers as a Team Lead.</li></ul> <p><b>What we’re looking for</b>:</p> <p>Senior engineers that join our team will need to have diverse skill sets to bring technical, ethical, social and management competence to every job that we work on, for all of our professional clients and key stakeholders. Strong budgetary and project management skills are required at this level, accompanied by good commercial knowledge of design and construction contract forms such as NEC, and experience of working withing the contract conditions.</p> <p>The business proactively encourages chartership in engineering, and senior engineers are expected to be chartered or close to achieving chartership.</p> <p><b>You must have Qualifications and experience in:</b></p> <ul> <li>Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (typically 2:1 or above) in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field. A master’s degree may be preferred for senior roles.</li><li>Chartered Status (Preferred): Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with a professional body such as the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) or the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE) is highly desirable.</li><li>Experience: Extensive experience in electrical protection and control system design, Substation Automation and SCADA system typically 8-10 years, with a proven track record of delivering complex projects within the power sector.</li><li>Certifications (Optional): Professional certifications such as NEBOSH for health and safety, or specific training in protection and control system design, may be beneficial.</li></ul> <p><b>Benefits:</b></p> <p>We are always evolving our benefits to ensure were attracting and retaining great people.
