Primary Design Engineer (Substation) Scotland – Home Based Permanent Competitive Salary Flexible Benefits Freedom Professional Services are currently recruiting a Substation Design Engineer to join our team.

The role will be home based; however, you will be expected to attend a nearby Freedom or NG Bailey office in line with the company’s hybrid working policy.
The Substation Design Engineer will be responsible for delivering detailed EHV and HV electrical substation earthing design projects both in the UK and internationally, meeting all safety, quality, and environmental requirements.
The role will require travel to other Freedom/NG Bailey offices and client sites across the UK, with overnight stays where necessary.
Key deliverables for this role include: Deliver substation primary plant and cable design projects to targeted levels of quality, timeliness, and profitability.
Deliver detailed substation plant designs, including layouts, plant specifications, design calculations, cable designs, and cable route feasibility surveys.
Seek out innovative solutions to technical problems.
Provide advice and design work for primary plant including transformers, GIS and AIS switchgear, cables, and all substation equipment, from 11 kV up to 400 kV.
Possess sound analytical and numeracy skills, including short-circuit force calculations, cable rating calculations, short-circuit current calculations, and lightning protection calculations.
Have a solid understanding of the interface requirements of the civil/structural and OHL aspects of HV substations.

You will work with the Senior Electrical Engineer and assist with the design and delivery of new-build and refurbishment projects.
Qualifications and experience: HND (or equivalent) in Engineering, or a Degree (desirable).
Knowledge of CAD.
Knowledge of substation design.
Full UK driving licence.
