Interim, 6 months (potential to extend or permanent role) London Hybrid
We're partnering with an investor-backed fintech undergoing a significant evolution in how it builds and scales its technology and product capabilities. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who can take ownership of engineering across (backend, frontend, testing) while helping shape the next phase of the platform including the further evolution of AI-led workflows and automation moving towards agentic workflows.
The Opportunity
- Lead and scale backend and frontend engineering (including mobile)
- Drive modern engineering practices across delivery, testing, and architecture
- Partner closely with product as the organisation evolves toward a more product-led structure
- Introduce and embed AI use cases from early-stage copilots through to more advanced, agentic workflows
- Help define where AI delivers real value (customer, operations, analytics) vs noise
- Bring clarity, structure, and pace to a function in transition
This is a business investing heavily in technology and AI as a core strategic priority. They have already moved beyond simple use cases and are now seeing tangible ROI and now moving into the next phase of agentic workflows.
What They're Looking For
- Proven Director / Head of Engineering experience within a scaling environment (fintech or similarly regulated sectors like health care helpful but not essential)
- Strong track record leading full-stack teams (backend + frontend/mobile)
- Experience navigating ambiguity and leading through transformation
- Real commercial experience with AI tooling and agentic workflows > practical implementation over theory
- Ability to operate at both strategic and hands-on levels
- Comfortable working closely with senior stakeholders and influencing direction
