A day in the life of an Assistant Financial Controller at our hotel includes:

  • Maximising cash flow performance of the hotel through controls on inventory, credit and collection, disbursements, deposits and remittances
  • Enforcing, documenting and establishing adequate controls for all revenues and expenses and protection of assets, ensuring controls will satisfy or improve the level of guest service
  • Maintaining accurate and timely financial and operating information and providing analyses, interpretations and projections to management as required
  • Conducting monthly inspections and tests to ensure all departments are complying with required procedures
  • Performing those duties as required by the Financial Controller in respect of controls
  • Following up on all capital expenditures to ensure compliance with original justification and approval
  • Assisting and providing financial guidance in the formulation and implementation of the business plan, hotel and departmental budgets, objectives program, and managing relevant budgets appropriately
  • Providing proactive administrative support to management with reference to policy enforcement, business advice and operational assistance
  • Obtaining appropriate legal counsel regarding the business practices of the hotel, and maintaining awareness of local rules, laws and regulations
  • Implementing and maintaining acceptable accounting practices and procedures as required by corporate policies and procedures, generally accepted accounting practices, and those affected by local conditions
  • Performing related duties and special projects as assigned and required
  • Holding monthly credit meetings with the Financial Controller, GM, Front Office Manager, and M&E Manager
  • Researching declined bank cards and other credit card charge backs for justification and validity
