We are looking for an experienced Trade Planner to join a dynamic retail business where you will play a pivotal role in driving sales, margin and customer engagement through effective promotional planning and execution.
Working at the heart of the commercial function, you will collaborate closely with Buying, Merchandising, Marketing and Operations teams to develop and deliver trade plans that maximise performance across multiple channels. The Role
As Trade Planner, you will be responsible for developing and managing promotional and trading activity that supports the wider commercial strategy. You will analyse performance, identify opportunities, optimise investment decisions and ensure campaigns are executed effectively to deliver the best possible return.
- Develop and manage annual and seasonal trade plans aligned to business objectives and customer demand.
- Build and maintain promotional calendars to support sales, margin and volume targets.
- Analyse sales performance, promotional effectiveness, customer behaviour and market trends.
- Monitor competitor activity and identify opportunities to improve trading performance.
- Manage trade investment and promotional budgets to maximise ROI.
- Partner with Buying, Merchandising, Marketing and Operations teams to ensure joined-up planning and execution.
- Track campaign performance against agreed KPIs and provide actionable recommendations.
- Ensure promotional activity is delivered accurately and on time across all channels.
- Identify risks and opportunities within the trading plan and recommend corrective actions where required.
- Support governance and approval processes relating to promotional activity and trade investment.
About You
You will be commercially focused, highly organised and confident working with both data and stakeholders to influence decisions. You may currently be working in Trade Planning, Commercial Planning, Category Planning, Merchandising, Retail Operations or a similar commercial role and be looking for an opportunity to broaden your impact.
Skills & Experience
- Experience within a Trade Planning, Commercial Planning, Merchandising, Category Management or Retail Trading environment.
- Strong commercial awareness with an understanding of sales, margin and promotional performance drivers.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to turn data into actionable insight.
- Experience managing promotional calendars, trading plans or commercial campaigns.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- Highly organised with excellent project management capability.
- Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with commercial reporting tools.
- Experience within retail, consumer goods, FMCG or a multi-channel trading environment would be advantageous.
