Our client, a leading global academic publisher is seeking a dynamic and strategic Head of Research Community Engagement to drive the growth and engagement of research communities. In this leadership role, you will oversee editorial board recruitment and engagement strategies, working closely with cross-functional teams to foster vibrant and diverse research networks. Managing a small team, you will implement innovative technologies, streamline editorial processes, and leverage data-driven insights to optimize engagement. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Open Access publishing, strategic vision, and leadership experience in journal management.
Key Responsibilities
- Grow and engage research communities around our Gold Open Access journals, including overseeing the recruitment and engagement strategies for editorial boards.
- Manage a small team of editorial staff to support with research community initiatives.
- Collaborate cross-departmentally to ensure a cohesive and effective recruitment strategy that develops healthy research communities around our journals.
- Implement new technologies to support Journal Managers with efficient management and recruitment of board members.
- Use data & analytics to evaluate engagement of Editorial Boards and support engagement strategies & actions.
- Oversee the standardization of board roles and incentivisation schemes.
- Optimise the onboarding and offboarding process for Editorial Board members.
Skills/Experience
- A graduate in a biomedical discipline or engineering/physical science discipline or have experience working on academic journals in these fields of study.
- Experienced in journals publishing with strong strategic awareness, including a detailed understanding of industry trends and best practice.
- Extensively experienced in Open Access publishing, including in developing and implementing strategies for editorial board recruitment, engagement and management.
- A proven team leader.
- An excellent decision maker with financial acumen and sound commercial judgement.
- A flexible thinker with creativity to resolve complex problems, and an aptitude to drive new initiatives.
- Proficiency with data analysis and tools for monitoring activity and performance.
A £62,894 – 72,964 + benefits + bonus package is offered.
