Yolk Recruitment is supporting a global engineering manufacturer with the recruitment of a Mechanical Test Technician for its South Wales operation. This is a 6 month contract initially, with strong potential for extension.
This is a hands-on mechanical engineering role within a busy test laboratory. As a Mechanical Test Technician, you'll build and prepare mechanical assemblies, install them onto specialist test rigs, carry out testing to defined procedures, monitor performance and investigate unexpected results, working closely with engineers developing and validating mechanical products.
This is what you'll be doing:
- Build, repair and prepare test components and auxiliary equipment
- Install components and assemblies into test rigs
- Carry out test activities in line with defined procedures and standards
- Monitor ongoing tests and accurately record performance data
- Operate data acquisition equipment and record results accurately
- Diagnose issues with test equipment, fixtures or assemblies
- Assist with routine maintenance of test rigs and laboratory equipment
- Provide engineering teams with valuable insights and observations

- The successful Mechanical Test Technician will need a strong practical mechanical background and the ability to work carefully in a structured test environment
- Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent
- Able to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Strong practical mechanical skills
- An understanding of hydraulics and pneumatics
- Experience in a mechanical engineering test laboratory environment advantageous
- Experience in automotive, rail, marine, power generation, defence or similar manufacturing environments
