Bradford District and Craven Mind is a thriving, independent mental health charity with a clear purpose to promote positive mental wellbeing and empower and help people experiencing issues with their mental health to manage and work towards recovery and fulfilment.
Salary scale: £14.17 per hour (£27,263 per annum, FTE)
Contract: 12 months fixed term, January to December 2026, with intention to extend subject to funding
Hours: 37 hours per week
Base: Kenburgh House, 28 Manor Row, Bradford, BD1 4QU
Probationary Period: 6 months

Role Background: BDC Mind is recruiting two Trainee Children and Young People’s Wellbeing Practitioners (CYWPs). This is an exciting opportunity to train while working in a supportive mental health service dedicated to improving outcomes for children, young people, and their families.
Overview: CYWPs deliver low‑intensity, evidence‑based interventions for anxiety, depression and conduct‑related difficulties, including guided self‑help for young people and parents/carers. These posts form part of the national Children and Young People’s mental health transformation initiative.
Training: The role includes enrolment on the Postgraduate Diploma in Evidence‑Based Psychological Treatment: Children and Young People’s Wellbeing Practitioner, starting January 2026. Applicants must be available to start on this date and able to commit to the full training year. Training is delivered by Greater Manchester Psychological Therapies Training Centre (University of Manchester), Prestwich. Trainees must attend all taught and self‑study days set by the training provider. You do not need a degree to apply. Candidates without an undergraduate qualification are welcome but will need to demonstrate academic suitability by completing a short written assignment as part of the selection process.
Role Purpose:
- To manage busy caseloads; ensuring effective communication with families, professionals, staff, CYPs and more.
- To operate within our clinical and case management supervision framework and engage effectively with supervision regularly.
- To use a range of IT systems, ensuring high‑quality data is collected appropriately, kept securely and confidentially.
- To work in an innovative and child, young person and family‑centred way, in a culture of continuous improvement and learning.
- To engage and manage your educational and training responsibilities and ensure all deadlines are met.
- To demonstrate continued practice development and engage in annual appraisal.
- To carry out such other duties as may be reasonably expected in accordance with the grade of the post.
Qualifications:
- Evidence of ability to study successfully at undergraduate level (level 6) or the equivalent through a proven academic record of previous learning/formal study in Child Development, Well‑being or Mental Health
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including telephone skills and use of internet mediated communication
- Ability to develop good therapeutic relationships
- Able to develop good professional relationships with colleagues both within and beyond internal work systems and child and adolescent mental health services
- Responsive to and willing to ask for feedback and supervision
- Able to complete academic components of the course
- Able to work under pressure
- Regard for others and respect for individual rights of autonomy and confidentiality
- Ability to be self‑reflective in own personal and professional development and in supervision
- Able to travel between sites where children and young people may present (e.g. community settings, schools, NHS premises, home etc.)
- Fluent in languages other than English
Additional Information: BDC Mind will provide a supportive learning environment and is committed to inclusion. Applicants need to be able to start the training programme taught academic dates in January 2026 and commit to attendance at all university–based taught and self‑study days required by Manchester University. The Children and Young People’s Improving Access to Psychological Therapies programme (CYP IAPT) is a service transformation programme delivered by Health Education England and partners that aims to improve existing children and young people’s mental health services working in the community. Training will be integrated fully within BDC Mind’s CYP mental health services, and linked to the CYP IAPT Collaborative.
