We're looking for a design-focused engineer to craft exceptional, user‑centric interfaces using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. This interface‑first role works in our Ruby on Rails codebase. Your primary responsibility is to build clean, responsive, and accessible interfaces and experiences that empower our customers and internal teams. You will collaborate closely with the product team and pair with a Rails engineer to bring designs, features, and products to life following our 6‑week Shape Up cycle.

Responsibilities

  • Work on our customer‑facing website and our internal back‑office web apps to enable our kitchen and operation teams to serve high‑quality, healthy meals.
  • Identify and implement improvements to user experience, accessibility, performance and code quality across our interfaces.
  • Work on projects within 6‑week cycles to design and build new features, and improve existing functionality.
  • Document and build out our internal design system, components, and base stylesheets as changes are made.
  • Communicate what you're working on in team calls and async updates.

Qualifications

  • You are experienced with the modern web and can write HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • You may lack direct experience with Rails, but you are comfortable working alongside it to apply designs with oversight and feedback.
  • You are comfortable using design software tools like Figma to accomplish simple tasks.
  • You have good visual taste and design sensibilities, though you may sometimes require support from a senior designer.
  • You care about creating accessible, intuitive, and visually appealing interfaces and have a high attention to detail.
  • You can run and own small‑batch projects (about 2 weeks) from concept to delivery alongside a backend engineer.

What You’ll Be Working With

  • Tech Stack: Ruby on Rails, Hotwire (Turbo, Stimulus), Tailwind v4
  • Design Tools: Figma
  • Workflow: GitHub for version control and CI/CD, Shape Up methodology
