This is a contract role of 1-2 days a week which can be worked from home and some visits to London, for a growing not for profit. It is a rare opportunity to join an ambitious new organisation that exists to train, support and mobilise groups of senior staff from powerful industries who are working for a more just and regenerative world. You will be one of the earliest staff members in a dedicated team and will play a key leadership role as they grow.

They are looking for someone who is experienced in the world of institutional investment management who is able to be the bridge between the voice of concerned professionals within an industry and the investment community. In their model, individual firms are not mentioned or ‘called out’ but senior professionals share their concerns about the decisions companies across their industry are making with a range of stakeholders, including the investment community. Your job will be to build an active community of partners within investment management who are interested to hear the insights of insiders and use that insight to inform their engagement with companies within an industry.

They are looking for someone from an investment management/investor engagement background who is entrepreneurial and wants to support their growth; is able to be a powerful spokesperson for the work; is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion; and can bring the support of asset managers and pension funds to the issues raised by their insiders.

ABOUT THE ROLE

You’ll lead the interface between senior insiders and investment managers. They believe that investment managers want to engage with industries and individual companies on issues that bring long-term social and/or environmental risk. They know insiders wish investors asked better questions and led more effective engagement coalitions with companies across an industry. Your job will be to make this happen. You will be the ambassador of senior insiders to the world of asset management - working with existing industry initiatives and networks and large asset managers to engage on critical issues raised by insiders. You’ll be a self-starter leading your own strategy in an exciting new organisation. This role is suited to someone who is comfortable working independently in a fast-evolving context, who combines strategic clarity with strong operational delivery, and who is motivated by the challenge of building something new. This is a hands-on role. There is no delivery team to delegate to, so comfort with rolling up your sleeves is essential.

WHAT THEY ARE LOOKING FOR

They expect you will bring experience in investment management. They are looking for a thoughtful individual who:

  • Has experience of managing the responsibility for engagement with listed companies on behalf of a major asset manager
  • Is confident working in high-trust environments and supporting others to act boldly
  • Is a strong facilitator
  • Is an experienced spokesperson
  • Can work collaboratively with partners across investment management, coalitions, corporations and media
  • Brings a clear-eyed view on project management — able to write clearly, distil insight, and keep things on track
  • Has a strong sense of purpose, and a belief in the role industry can play in meeting social and environmental challenges
  • Is emotionally resilient and comfortable working in complex, high-trust environments — including when navigating disagreement, organisational politics, or conflicting perspectives with calm, empathy and clarity
  • Is operationally very strong and driven to improve operations and processes
  • Is committed to the development of others in their team
  • Thrives in building something new and putting systems into a start-up environment where structures are still forming
  • Is able to pick up a brief from insiders in any industry from food, to tech to insurance to finance to advertising and represent that work to investors
  • Is motivated by long-term systems change rather than short-term outputs
  • Wants to work alongside thoughtful, values-driven collaborators and invests in building relationships for the long term
  • Understands the value of working with senior professionals in powerful industries
  • Is entrepreneurial, kind, and hardworking — someone who takes initiative, follows through, and approaches others with curiosity and respect
