Senior Engineer
Strategic Initiatives (R&D) is looking for a Senior Engineer to contribute to the build-and-prove layer of Mimecast P&E's AI Native Engineering function — making AI-native and agentic ways of working the fast, safe, default path for product pillars and service owners across the R&D organization.
This is not a narrowly scoped specialist role.
You will work across tooling, enablement, and architecture in an integrated fashion — building reusable patterns, constructing agentic system prototypes, evolving visibility for stakeholders, and engaging directly with teams to surface challenges and remove friction.
You will help build and maintain reusable paved roads that concentrate on architecture and security alignment so that engineering teams can move quickly and confidently without paying redundant experimentation and approval costs in silos.
You will work closely with the Director of Strategic Initiatives and work across teams within the R&D organization, collaborating with architects, and senior engineers to share knowledge, prove patterns, and evolve how Mimecast builds software.
AI-First Engineering at Mimecast
Mimecast is an AI-First engineering organization.
Our teams actively leverage AI-powered development tools across all facets of engineering, from code development to testing, documentation, and operations.
We're looking for leaders who don't just use AI tools but champion their adoption and establish new ways of working.
Our AI leadership extends beyond how we build to what we build.
Our Mihra AI agent delivers 7x faster threat response for customers, and we're recognized as "Agents of Change" in Human Risk Management.
Engineers here work at the intersection of cutting-edge AI tooling and AI-powered security products that protect organizations worldwide.
- What You’ll Do
- Build and iterate on reusable tooling and automation that accelerates AI-Native development practices across the Product and R&D organization.
- Develop and iterate on agentic system prototypes that demonstrate practical, production-viable patterns for engineering teams to adopt and extend.
- Evolve internal visibility and measurement systems that give engineering leadership clear, actionable insight into AI-Native evolution progress and impact.
- Collaborate with teams to help surface emerging challenges, bottlenecks, and opportunities as workflows mature.
- Contribute to reusable, well-documented paved roads that concentrate architecture and security alignment — reducing the cost of experimentation and governance for individual teams.
- Contribute to knowledge sharing through documentation, examples, and hands‑on support, helping teams apply patterns effectively in their own contexts.
- Surface observations and insights from day‑to‑day work to help inform the function's strategic direction and priorities.
- What You’ll Bring
- Strong hands‑on software engineering skills with demonstrated ability to ship production‑quality tooling, automation, and integrations (e. g., Python, Type Script, or equivalent).
- Solid Dev Ops and platform engineering fluency — comfortable working with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure‑as‑code, and modern delivery toolchains.
- Working knowledge of secure development practices and the ability to integrate security considerations into tooling and architectural patterns.
- Full‑spectrumn engineering background spanning multiple disciplines (e. g., QA, tooling, platform, application development) — not a narrow specialist.
- Strong communication and facilitation skills: comfortable communicating technical work clearly and collaborating with engineers across teams.
- Demonstrated ability to work with increasing autonomy, prioritize across competing demands, and drive initiatives forward without close direction.
- Evidence of initiative and impact beyond immediate team responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Solid engineering experience at the mid‑to‑senior level with evidence of growing scope and initiative.
- Experience in cybersecurity, email security, or adjacent enterprise Saa S domains preferred.
- Familiarity with AI/ML concepts including prompt engineering, model evaluation, retrieval‑augmented generation, and agent orchestration frameworks is valuable but can be developed in‑role.
- Prior experience in a developer enablement, developer experience, internal tools, or platform engineering function preferred.
- Experience contributing to internal tooling, shared engineering infrastructure, or developer‑facing platforms that serve a broad engineering organization is a plus.

Join our Strategic Initiatives team to accelerate your career journey, working with cutting‑edge technologies and contributing to projects that have real customer impact.
You will be immersed in a dynamic environment that recognizes and celebrates your achievements.
