The Finance team at Milton Keynes City Council takes an active lead in all decisions in the council, supporting a number of directors, external partners and projects in order to ensure we are giving the best value to our residents and businesses.

We’re excited to launch recruitment for a Management Accountant in the Adult Services Finance team.

The role will provide support for Adult Social Care which includes Learning Disabilities, Mental Health, Physical Disabilities and Older People. The Adult Services directorate has a net budget circa of £100m.

This is a fast-paced area with no two days the same. We’re looking for an enthusiastic, inquisitive and passionate individual who will challenge services and processes to ensure good governance and value for money.

You’ll be part of a dynamic, energised finance team who are integral to wider council services.

This role may be suitable for home working, following an assessment.

Interviews for this role will be held W/C 24 March.

Main Responsibility

The Management Accountant will have responsibility for the following areas:

  • Budget monitoring and reporting
  • Medium Term Financial Plan (including ensuring proposals and business cases are robust)
  • Year-end closure of accounts, including liaison with auditors
  • Finance lead for key returns such as ASC-FR

Support on key projects and provide advice to Senior Managers. In addition, the post holder will also:

  • Work closely with other members of the wider Finance Team to help shape the Finance functions and processes

The Ideal Candidate

  • Qualified accountant (CCAB) or in final year with relevant CPD
  • Excellent spreadsheet skills and ability to undertake complex financial modelling
  • Experience of financial planning, control, and reporting
  • Ability to explain complicated and technical information in a manner that can be understood by others
  • Deliver solutions to complex challenges within Adult Services

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week. Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
