The Brest Imaging team has undergone a redesign to modernise the space and install state-of-the-art technology, including tomosynthesis, CESM, and CESM biopsy, along with a newly designed staff hub.

The Breast Imaging department is part of the diagnostic imaging team at MKUH, providing the National Breast Screening (NHSBSP) and symptomatic imaging services for Milton Keynes. This involves work at both the static breast unit and mobile screening unit locations, requiring flexibility across sites.

Due to the nature of the role and to encourage women of all cultures and religions to access breast screening, all applicants must be female. This is an occupational requirement under the Equality Act, schedule 9, paragraph 1, and the Employment Statutory Code of Practices, Chapter 13, paragraphs 13.5-13.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking a dedicated HCPC-registered Radiographer with a passion for breast imaging, holding a UK regulated level 7 postgraduate qualification in Mammography or a UK ENIC statement of compatibility.

  • Work as part of the Breast Care Unit multidisciplinary team, providing breast screening and symptomatic services across Milton Keynes, including mobile screening and hospital-based duties, utilizing dedicated computer systems.
  • Supervise and mentor assistant practitioners as required.
  • Perform high-quality diagnostic breast imaging to detect or exclude breast cancer, maintaining high patient care standards.
  • As a Senior Mammographer, lead by example, work independently according to departmental SOPs, and liaise with the Breast Imaging Service Manager.
  • Lead the breast screening service when working in the mobile unit, providing advice and assistance to colleagues.

  • Participate in Breast Imaging Services staff rotation at both the Mobile Unit and the Breast Care Unit, handling admin and clinical duties.
  • Transport clinic paperwork and consumables between sites following Caldicott principles and guidelines.
