Are you passionate about patient safety and supporting learning from patient safety incidents? We’re offering an exciting 23-month secondment within our Patient Safety Team for a motivated, dynamic and compassionate individual to champion Patient Safety across MKUH.

Main duties of the job
This is a key role working across the Trust to lead, enable and facilitate the provision of safe, effective research-based care to be provided to patients. The post holder will work closely on all aspects of patient safety in line with the national Patient Safety Strategy and Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) alongside staff in every professional discipline.
This post will work across the Trust, providing expert support in the investigation of patient safety incidents, including liaising with patients and families as well as providing support to staff.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Main duties and responsibilities
• Working flexibly within the patient safety team to ensure the needs of our patients, families and staff are prioritised in a timely fashion and safety team colleagues are supported. This may involve working hours and onsite days being changed from week to week in order to provide a responsive support and learning service.
• To work with divisions, the corporate nursing, patient experience, quality improvement, and risk teams as part of the Trust’s patient safety team to ensure that the Trust meets the requirements set out in the national Patient Safety Strategy and PSIRF.
Patient Safety
• To lead on implementation and embedding of the Patient Safety Strategy and PSIRF across the Trust.
• To be responsible for the coordination of patient safety incident related activities across the Trust, including reporting, investigating, report writing and patient/ family liaison.
Education
• To design, provide and support education and training for staff in all areas of incident management and patient safety.
Patient Focus
• To engage with patients and families who have been involved in a patient safety incident in accordance with national PSIRF guidance.
• To co-create restorative actions and plans with patients and families who have been • involved in a patient safety incident and to work with the complaints, PALS and patient experience teams to ensure a holistic approach to engagement.
Communications
• To support the dissemination of information pertinent to patient safety activity across the Divisions, supporting the development of systems and processes which facilitate both learning and sharing of practice.
• To support the Patient Safety team in providing robust education programmes on areas relevant to patient safety.
