Job Introduction
Make a difference where it matters most. This is a fantastic opportunity to join us as we embed our new Family Help and Multi-Agency Child Protection Teams, following the national Families First reforms. Every day, our colleagues work alongside children, young people and families to create lasting change, helping, supporting and safeguarding children through creative, relationship-based practice. Whether your strengths lie in early intervention and family-led support, or child protection and safeguarding, we have opportunities across both services and, through a single application, you can tell us which area of practice interests you most.
We're looking for dedicated practitioners who want to be part of a service that is shaping the future of children's social care. As we continue to develop our systemic approach to practice, you'll join a supportive organisation that is committed to achieving better outcomes for children, young people and families across Milton Keynes. If you're ready to make a difference and help us deliver meaningful change, we'd love to hear from you.
Family Help
Our Family Help teams work with children, young people and families at the earliest opportunity, helping to reduce risk, build on strengths and create positive, sustainable change. We believe that families are often best placed to identify solutions when they receive the right support, and our practice is centred on building trusted relationships and strengthening family networks.
Multi-Agency Child Protection Teams
Our Multi-Agency Child Protection Teams support children who require statutory intervention, child protection planning, pre-proceedings and court work. These teams are focused on ensuring children are safe, protected and supported to achieve positive outcomes.
This is a Site-Based role, and you’ll be expected to work from the designated workplace. Interviews will be held on a rolling basis throughout the advertising period. Suitable candidates may be invited to interview as applications are received.
At Milton Keynes City Council, we aim to make a difference every day. We’re dedicated, respectful and collaborative. We act as one council, and we work hard to create cleaner, safer and healthier communities while tackling inequalities and supporting people to thrive.
Key Responsibilities
- Build effective relationships with children, young people and families, ensuring the child's voice remains at the centre of all planning and decision-making.
- Complete high-quality assessments, analyse risk and identify strengths to develop clear, outcome-focused plans that promote safety and positive change.
- Deliver purposeful interventions that improve children's safety, wellbeing and long-term outcomes, using relationship-based and trauma-informed practice.
- Work collaboratively with families, partner agencies and wider support networks to coordinate effective support and reduce the need for more intensive intervention wherever possible.
- Manage a varied caseload, making informed professional decisions and responding confidently to changing levels of need, risk and safeguarding concerns.
- Contribute to a culture of reflective practice, continuous learning and high professional standards, helping to achieve the best outcomes for children and families.
Ideal Candidate
- A recognised Social Work qualification.
- Registration with Social Work England.
- Experience of working within Children's Social Care.
- Strong assessment, planning and analytical skills.
- The ability to build effective relationships and engage families in meaningful change.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A commitment to child-centred, trauma-informed and relationship-based practice.
- The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies.
- Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle. If we offer you the role, we’ll ask you to provide evidence of your driving licence and vehicle insurance, including cover for business use. We’re unable to confirm an appointment until these documents are received. As part of the pre-employment checks, should you be offered the role, we’ll carry out an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, unless you are currently registered with the DBS Update Service.
