We’re recruiting two Revenues Advisors to join our Council Tax team within Revenues and Benefits at Milton Keynes City Council. This is a rewarding role where your work directly supports residents and helps fund vital local services.

The Council Tax team within Revenues and Benefits is responsible for administering Council Tax accounts, processing reliefs and exemptions, resolving customer enquiries, and ensuring legislation is applied accurately and consistently. Our team plays a vital role in maximising income collection for Milton Keynes City Council while delivering high-quality, professional customer service to residents.

Our work directly supports residents by helping them understand and manage their Council Tax, access reductions where eligible, and resolve complex issues quickly and fairly. This work is essential to maintaining council funding for local services while ensuring fairness, compliance with legislation, and positive outcomes for the community.

You’ll work closely with colleagues across Revenues and Benefits to make sure Council Tax accounts are accurate and up to date. You’ll support customers through a range of contact channels including telephone, post, and face-to-face. This role is well suited to someone with experience in Council Tax or Business Rates, or someone with transferable experience from a similar customer-focused environment.

This role may be suitable for home working, following an assessment. Home-based roles require a minimum of one day per week working from the office or site.

Interviews for this role will be held on 10th July 2026.

  • Deal with customer enquiries to conclusion by telephone, post, or face-to-face in relation to Council Tax and Business Rates.
  • Update Council Tax and Business Rates systems to ensure records are accurate and up to date.
  • Make enquiries with internal and external customers to establish liability for Council Tax and Business Rates accounts.
  • Support Team Leaders to help meet performance targets and service standards.
  • Assist with customer enquiries at Magistrates Court when required, helping to resolve issues before hearings where possible.
  • Identify and signpost customers who may need debt management or other support services.

Ideal Candidate

  • GCSE English and Maths at grades A to C, or equivalent.
  • Experience of Council Tax or Business Rates, or experience in a similar role with transferable skills.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office and learning new systems.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex information clearly and calmly.
  • Good numeracy skills with the ability to carry out financial calculations and solve practical problems.
  • A flexible and organised approach, with the ability to manage your own workload in a busy team environment.

As part of the pre-employment checks, should you be offered the role, we’ll carry out a Basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
