You will also monitor contractor performance, ensure full compliance with housing legislation, and provide support with technical issues on site. A key responsibility is ensuring we meet strict timescales for identifying, escalating, and resolving damp, mould and other health and safety hazards in residents’ homes.

We act as one council, and we work hard to create cleaner, safer and healthier communities while tackling inequalities and supporting people to thrive. We take pride in our supportive work culture and try to go that extra mile when it comes to investing in our colleagues.

  • Supervise and monitor contractors delivering responsive maintenance and planned works.
  • Ensure works are legally compliant, including prescribed timescales for inspection, remedial action, and effective resolution of damp, mould, and category 1 hazards.
  • Act swiftly to identify, elevate, and manage serious housing hazards that pose a risk to residents’ health and safety.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, building regulations, fire safety standards, and wider housing regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain strong client–contractor relationships and oversee significant revenue and capital expenditure.
  • Prepare clear project reports, inspection records, and scoping documents.
  • Carry out regular onsite inspections for the majority of the working week, including occasional work at heights and in potential hazardous environments.

Ideal Candidate

  • A holder of a relevant accredited qualification in engineering, construction, safety, housing or a related discipline.
  • With proven experience supervising contractors and monitoring construction or maintenance works, ideally within a housing environment.
  • Able to build positive relationships with tenants, contractors and colleagues to resolve issues and deliver practical solutions.
  • Bringing strong knowledge of maintenance works, building regulations, fire safety standards and wider housing compliance requirements.
  • Comfortable managing competing priorities while contributing to projects, programmes and financial responsibilities.
  • Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle.

If we offer you the role, we’ll ask you to provide evidence of your driving licence and vehicle insurance, including cover for business use. We’re unable to confirm an appointment until these documents are received.
