We’re recruiting Care Assistants to join our Supported Housing for Older People service at Milton Keynes City Council. In this rewarding role, you’ll support older people to live with dignity, independence and choice. This may include supporting people living with dementia or complex health needs. Our Adult Services team supports some of the most vulnerable people in our community, providing essential care as part of a 24/7 service.

As a Care Assistant, you’ll help make a real difference each day by delivering person-centred care, building positive relationships, and working closely with colleagues, families and other professionals. We welcome applicants with care experience, but this is not essential. This role would suit someone starting out in care, as long as you bring a compassionate approach and a willingness to learn.

This is a Site-Based role with both Full time and Part time positions available. You’ll work across a two-week rolling rota, covering Monday to Sunday. Shifts include:

  • Early shifts (for example, starting around 7am and finishing mid-afternoon).
  • Late shifts (for example, starting mid-afternoon and finishing in the evening).

Some days will include split or extended cover where both early and late shifts are needed. You’ll have regular rest days built into the rota to support work-life balance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality care and support in line with individual support plans.
  • Support with personal care, including eating, drinking, medication and mobility.
  • Promote independence, dignity and choice in all interactions.
  • Record accurate information and contribute to care plans and risk assessments.
  • Work closely with colleagues, families and external partners to meet individual needs.
  • Identify and respond to risks, following safeguarding and health and safety guidance.

Ideal Candidate:

  • A compassionate and caring person who can build trusting relationships.
  • An understanding of the needs of vulnerable adults or a willingness to learn.
  • Clear communication skills and confidence working with others.
  • Able to keep accurate records and maintain confidentiality.
  • Calm and responsive in emergency or challenging situations.
  • Flexible and willing to support across different locations when needed.

As part of the pre-employment checks, should you be offered the role, we’ll carry out an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, unless you are currently registered with the DBS Update Service.

Milton Keynes City Council is committed to building an inclusive workforce that reflects the diversity of our community. We actively encourage applications from candidates who bring a range of perspectives, particularly those from underrepresented groups.
