Our roles are either designated 'site based' or 'home based'. 'Site based' roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst 'home based' roles are based at home four days a week. Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.

Job Introduction:

We're recruiting a Community Transport Driver to join our Older People's Day Service team at Milton Keynes City Council. Our Older People's Day Service supports 155 older people across Milton Keynes, providing meaningful activities, companionship, and support that improve wellbeing and reduce isolation. The service also gives carers valuable respite, helping them continue to support loved ones at home. By promoting independence and preventative care, we help people stay connected to their communities and maintain their quality of life.

As a Community Transport Driver, you'll play a vital role in making this support accessible. You'll safely transport service users between their homes and our day services, ensuring they arrive comfortably, on time, and ready to participate. More than just driving, you'll provide a friendly and professional service, treating every person with dignity, respect, and compassion. Your support will help older people remain active, independent, and connected, while contributing to their overall wellbeing.

This is a rewarding part-time role working 22 hours per week, Monday to Friday. You'll work 4.4 hours per day, with hours split between morning and afternoon transport runs. Working in Day Services at Milton Keynes City Council means supporting people to enjoy fulfilling routines, build confidence and stay connected to their community. Responsibilities:

• Driving council vehicles to transport service users safely between their homes and Older People's Day Service locations.
• Supporting passengers on and off vehicles and assisting those with mobility needs to travel safely and comfortably.
• Carrying out daily vehicle safety checks, basic cleaning, refuelling and ensuring vehicles remain roadworthy.
• Following transport schedules and agreed routes whilst maintaining excellent timekeeping and reliability.
• Working in line with health and safety procedures in vehicles, service settings and service users’ homes.
• Reporting vehicle defects, concerns and changes in service user needs to the relevant team leader.

Ideal Candidate:

• A current clean driving licence held for more than three years, including the D1 vehicle category required for this post.
• Confident in supporting older people and vulnerable adults with dignity, patience and respect.
• Able to follow transport schedules, plan routes effectively and work within agreed timescales.
• Comfortable working independently, using initiative and responding calmly to unexpected situations.
• Experience of working with vulnerable people, including those with mental health needs.
• A flexible and reliable team player who reflects our values of being dedicated, respectful and collaborative.

To be successful in this role, you'll need a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle. If we offer you the role, we'll ask you to provide evidence of your driving licence and vehicle insurance, including cover for business use.
