Job Introduction
Join our expanding team and be part of our investment in the future.
We’re recruiting an ICT Security Analyst to join our ICT service at Milton Keynes City Council.
The ICT Security team protects the council’s systems, data and digital services so the council can continue to operate securely and reliably for the people of Milton Keynes.
The team sets and maintains security policies, standards and guidance, manages cyber risk, and works across council services to make sure security is built into day‑to‑day operations, projects and technology change.
The team monitors for threats and weaknesses, investigates incidents, leads response and recovery when issues arise, and helps strengthen resilience through planning, training, awareness and continual improvement.
It also supports compliance with recognised frameworks, works with partners and suppliers to improve secure delivery, and helps the council adopt modern technologies in a safe, controlled and responsible way.
By protecting information and reducing disruption, the Security team helps Milton Keynes City Council remain resilient, trusted and able to deliver essential services across more than 200 council services.
You’ll help us protect vital systems, reduce cyber risk, respond to incidents and give practical advice that supports colleagues right across the organisation.
At Milton Keynes City Council, support services such as ICT are fundamental to every team’s success, and this role will help us work as one council for local people.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone with strong security knowledge who wants to make a real difference in a large, values‑driven public service organisation.
Home Working
This role may be suitable for home working, following an assessment. Home‑based roles require a minimum of one day per week working from the office or site.
- Main Responsibility
- Protect council IT services by identifying threats and vulnerabilities and helping to make sure access to systems and information is limited to approved colleagues only.
- Develop and maintain security documentation, standards, procedures and guidance that support confidentiality, integrity and availability.
- Identify, assess and prioritise cyber risks, and help create and manage practical mitigation plans.
- Lead or support the response to security breaches and failures, helping to limit impact, reduce recovery time and strengthen resilience.
- Monitor, audit and review systems and configurations, identify weaknesses and vulnerabilities, and provide clear recommendations for improvement.
- Work closely with colleagues, projects and third‑party suppliers to build security into new and existing systems, provide compliance advice, and improve awareness of cyber risk across the council.
- The Ideal Candidate
- Holding relevant professional qualifications and experience, including a degree‑level qualification in a relevant field, you’ll bring a strong foundation for this specialist role.
- Certified in either an (ISC)2 pathway or Microsoft Security, Compliance and Identity Fundamentals, you’ll be able to show recognised learning in information security.
- With experience of working in an information security function within a large organisation, you’ll understand how to manage risk in a complex operational environment.
- Bringing knowledge of Microsoft 365, the Power Platform, IT service and asset management, and security good practice such as ISO 270001 and Information Technology Infrastructure Library methods, you’ll be comfortable working across a broad technical estate.
- Able to explain technical issues clearly, you’ll translate security risks into practical advice for colleagues, managers, customers and suppliers.
- Curious, analytical and collaborative, you’ll work well under pressure, solve problems with care, and support a culture that is dedicated, respectful and collaborative.
