A rewarding opportunity for a Shift Leader to join our team at Westminster House in Bletchley, one of our residential children's homes. Our residential children's homes provide a safe, supportive environment for children and young people, and this role is key to ensuring their wellbeing. You'll manage the service during your shift and make decisions that keep children and young people safe. You'll lead colleagues, mentor new team members, and work closely with families and professionals to achieve the best outcomes. You'll be working for an organisation with strong values of dedication, respect and collaboration, where everything we do is about making a positive difference for our communities.

Responsibilities

  • Leading the shift and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
  • Managing challenging behaviour through risk assessment and safe intervention.
  • Maintaining accurate records and monitoring risk assessments.
  • Implementing individual care plans and working with multi-agency colleagues.
  • Coaching and supporting colleagues to model best practice.

Qualifications

  • A Level 3 Diploma for the Children’s and Young People’s Workforce (or willingness to start within three months), or at least one year’s experience in residential childcare.
  • Experience working with children and/or those with learning disabilities.
  • Strong communication skills, including non-verbal methods.
  • Ability to manage risk assessments and maintain detailed records.
  • Physical ability to undertake moving and handling tasks safely.
  • Undertake minibus test to drive the home’s vehicle.
  • Support children on holidays away from the home with fellow members of the team.
  • Colleagues are expected to work during the Christmas and New Year period as part of their role. This requirement will be managed fairly, with shifts alternated each year between working Christmas and New Year.
  • A Safe Handling of Medicines Certificate (or willingness to complete within three months).
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle. If offered the position, proof of licence and vehicle insurance (including business use cover) will be requested.
  • DBS check: Enhanced disclosure is part of the pre-employment process (unless already registered with the DBS Update Service).
