Job Purpose:

The Maintenance Engineer will play a critical role in ensuring that all production equipment and machinery are operating efficiently and safely within a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for reactive and preventative maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives to minimize downtime and enhance productivity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preventative Maintenance:Conduct regular inspections and planned maintenance on production equipment to prevent breakdowns and ensure machinery runs efficiently.
  • Reactive Maintenance:Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns, diagnose faults, and carry out repairs to minimize production downtime.
  • Machinery Installation & Modification:Support the installation, testing, and commissioning of new machinery and modifications to existing equipment in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Compliance & Safety:Ensure all work complies with company and statutory Health & Safety and Food Safety regulations. Participate in risk assessments and adhere to HACCP, GMP, and other relevant food safety standards.
  • Continuous Improvement:Identify areas for improvement and recommend solutions to enhance equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and improve manufacturing efficiency.
  • Documentation & Reporting:Maintain accurate maintenance records, including maintenance logs, work orders, and spare parts usage. Generate reports on equipment performance, downtime, and completed maintenance tasks.
  • Collaboration:Work closely with the production team, other engineers, and management to address issues, support production targets, and optimize machinery performance.
  • Training & Development:Assist in training production and junior engineering staff on equipment use, routine maintenance procedures, and safety protocols.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Qualifications:
    • Minimum NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
    • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (desirable but not essential).
  • Experience:
    • Proven experience as a Maintenance Engineer within a food manufacturing environment
    • Strong knowledge of mechanical or electrical maintenance, including PLC fault-finding, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
  • Skills:
    • Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical or electrical faults.
    • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work under pressure.
    • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
    • Knowledge of food safety standards and regulations
