Millward provides specialist services to a broad range of clients across the country, including projects within the residential, commercial and industrial sectors. We’re looking for an experienced Principal Structural Engineer to join our growing team and play a key role in delivering high-quality building and structural projects from concept through to completion. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong engineer who enjoys taking ownership, leading project teams and working closely with clients, architects and other design disciplines to turn challenging briefs into successful built solutions.
Key responsibilities
- Leading structural engineering projects from initial concept through detailed design and construction.
- Providing technical leadership and sound engineering judgement across projects.
- Managing project delivery, programmes, resources and technical outputs.
- Coordinating structural design with architects, engineers, contractors and other stakeholders.
- Developing practical, efficient and innovative structural solutions.
- Reviewing and approving calculations, drawings, specifications and technical reports.
- Supporting project teams in resolving technical and construction challenges.
- Building strong, trusted relationships with clients and project partners.
- Mentoring and developing engineers and contributing to the wider growth of the team.
- Supporting business development, fee proposals and winning new work where appropriate.
Skills and qualifications
- Chartered or near-chartered with ICE or IstructE (or equivalent professional body).
- Typically, 10+ years’ experience delivering structural engineering design for residential, commercial, industrial and public sector developments.
- Strong project delivery and team leadership skills.
- Excellent technical knowledge and engineering judgement.
- Experience working collaboratively with clients and multidisciplinary design teams.
- The ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining quality and programme.
- Strong communication skills, both technical and interpersonal.
- A proactive, commercially aware and solutions-focused approach.
- Chartered status or a clear route towards professional registration.
