Millwall Football Club is seeking a highly efficient team player to join the U21 squad as a Physiotherapist, reporting directly to the Head of Medical and Head of Performance. The role involves planning and leading medical care for all U21 players, providing pitch-side cover at matches, maintaining squad health, and overseeing rehabilitation of injured or unwell players.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure appropriate medical provision for all U21 training and matchdays.
- Provide pitch-side first aid and trauma management at U21s matches.
- Lead and perform U21s medical and cardiac screening in line with first team methods and academy requirements.
- Assess and manage all injuries and illnesses within the squad, including treatment, rehabilitation and referrals where required.
- Liaise with first team and U21 coaching staff on a daily basis regarding player availability.
- Maintain daily contact with academy medical staff and provide regular updates to U21s coaches with regard to U18 availability.
- Design and deliver individualized injury prevention programs.
- Prepare detailed rehabilitation plans from early stages through to return to play, including gym and pitch-based work.
- Refer for further medical investigations where appropriate and liaise with specialists on complex cases.
- Maintain medical records and note-taking in line with clinical governance and academy audit requirements.
- Conduct medical screening of trialists and assist with administrative activities regarding their trial periods.
- Provide daily updates for player whereabouts as part of anti-doping measures.
- Perform weekly medical equipment checks on U21 trauma kit, including stock takes for medications, and update the club doctor as required.
- Ensure adequate cover for players undergoing prolonged rehabilitation throughout the off-season.
Essential Requirements / Qualifications
- Chartered Physiotherapist registered with the HCPC.
- FA Advanced Trauma and Medical Management in Football (ATMMiF).
- FA Safeguarding qualifications.
- Transport working in a football setting.
- Knowledge of anti-doping regulations.
- Engages in regular CPD activities.
- Work flexibly and be open to extensive travel within the UK.

- MSc in an associated field (Sports Science).
- UKAD Clean Sport Advisor.
