Overview
The main objectives of the Primary Stars Coordinator role are to co-ordinate and manage the delivery of Millwall Community Trust Primary Stars and Schools Provision, part of the Premier League's flagship schools programme. The main aims of the project are to:
- Enhance teachers' knowledge, skills and confidence to improve provision of PE and School Sport
- Increase children's enjoyment, participation and skills in competitive and non-competitive sports and other physical activities.
- Increase children's understanding of the personal skills and values they need to achieve their goals
- Enhance children's understanding of, and interest and confidence in, English and Maths
- Support young people to follow further participation in sport
Key Responsibilities
- Manage project staff to ensure delivery is of the highest quality.
- Coordinate staffing and timetables across participating schools.
- Ensure targets are achieved across all aspects of the PLPS programmes.
- Maintain current partnerships and establish new partnerships with schools taking part in the programme.
- Communicate with key school staff on a regular basis and be the point of contact for all school provision matters.
- Work closely with relevant Trust staff to ensure PLPS is promoted and embedded within the Trust's offer to schools.
- Complete monitoring and evaluation in line with PLCF and Trust guidelines.
- Support PLPS officers to plan and deliver activities that contribute to the main strands of the Millwall Community Trust Primary Stars programme.
- Develop MCT's School provision.
Qualifications and Experience
- UKCC Level 2 Coaching qualifications or equivalent.
- Educated to degree level (in a relevant subject) or have at least 2 years' experience of working in a Primary School environment.
- 1st4Sport L3 Certificate in Supporting the Delivery of PE and School Sport (desirable).
- Professional teaching qualification (desirable).
- L2 Multi-skills qualification (desirable).
- Full driving licence (desirable).
- DBS (required)
Experience
- Previous experience coaching/teaching sport in a Primary School setting.
- Delivering larger (whole school) learning activities.
- Working knowledge of the National Curriculum.
- Experience of line management of full-time and casual staff members.
- Experience of working within a set budget and managing finances.

- Awareness of issues faced by the local community, particularly young people and schools.
- Understanding of how to use Millwall FC & football as a motivational tool to inspire young people.
- Ability to act as a positive role model for the young people and build positive relationships with those young people who attend your sessions.
- Have a genuine interest in creating opportunities through sport and education for disadvantaged persons within the community.
- Passion for working with young people and using sport to help inspire change.
- Understanding of the mentoring process and how to support adults in their professional development.
- Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures for young people and vulnerable adults.
