We're looking for a Director with deep technology policy expertise to join our London team. This is a senior role for someone with at least 10 years of experience advising on the policy and political challenges facing global technology companies and the ambition, network and specialist knowledge to lead exceptional work for some of the most influential organisations in the sector. Directors at Milltown are responsible for the quality of everything we produce. You'll set strategy, agree fees, design teams, and ensure we consistently exceed client expectations. You'll give incisive advice, lead on new business, and develop the next generation of talent in the firm.

What you’ll do

  • Lead client work – Provide strategic advice to technology clients navigating complex policy and regulatory environments, combining a deep understanding of issues including AI, online safety, data and competition with sharp insight into UK political dynamics and their interaction with developments in the EU, US and globally.
  • Translate technical and policy concepts into narratives that resonate with parliamentarians, civil servants and regulators, and use stakeholder relationships to elevate the quality of the advice we give.
  • Run brilliant teams – Set clear priorities, hold yourself and your teams to account, and coach individuals to develop and perform at their best.
  • Drive innovation and growth – Ensure research and insight underpin everything we produce, seek expertise from outside the firm to sharpen our analysis, and be a visible advocate for AI‑enhanced advisory work – both with clients and across our teams.
  • Build and cultivate an external network that generates new opportunities, and lead on converting those opportunities into work.
  • Shape our culture – Give and receive regular feedback at all levels, demonstrate allyship to colleagues, actively seek input from others, and support the wellbeing of everyone on the team.

Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of advisory experience on technology policy issues, drawn from consultancy, government, a regulator or a technology company.
  • Deep understanding of key UK technology policy issues – including AI, online safety, data privacy and competition – and how these interact with developments in the EU, US and globally.
  • Experience advising or engaging with large global technology companies.
  • Established relationships with a range of policy stakeholders, including government, regulators, parliamentarians, party officials and trade associations.
  • Proven ability to communicate complex policy and technical topics to non‑specialist audiences.
  • Experience managing high‑performing teams and developing others through coaching and feedback.
  • Experience leading new business conversations and competitive pitches with demonstrable results.
  • Strong grasp of AI tools and their application in advisory work, with the ability to drive adoption across teams.
  • Intellectual curiosity to develop expertise in new areas and share that with colleagues.
  • Excellent command of written and verbal English.

Desirable

  • Experience advising clients across both UK and EU policy landscapes.
  • Existing network within technology, policy or regulatory communities in London or Brussels.
  • Experience working within a scaling advisory or consultancy environment.
