The role
We are seeking a solicitor or professionally qualified person to work with our existing Senior Knowledge Lawyer to provide support to colleagues working in our national Private Client team (“PC”).
There are different key elements to the KL role, including; Continuous Improvement, Training, Research & Review and, National Profile which need to be allocated and managed appropriately within the PC Knowledge Team.
The person
Given the responsibilities of this role, it is likely your background will demonstrate:
- Experience working as a Qualified Solicitor or equivalent alternative qualification – at least four years PQE within the Private Client space
- Good drafting and written skills
- Outstanding IT skills in terms of knowledge management and dissemination of information
- Knowledge and experience of private client law and practice and of the private wealth sector. It would be advantageous to have experience in one of more of the following specialisms: contentious private client, international, charities, landed estate work or advising business owners
- Enthusiastic, committed and professional approach to improving the legal knowledge and skills of fee- earners within the PC team and positively enhance the working cohesion of the entire team
- Good communication and interpersonal skills with ability to communicate at all levels and ability to role model the firm\'s values
- A desire to be involved in developing the private client practice and engaging in constant innovation and improvement. An interest in the technology and the changing nature of legal service delivery would be a significant bonus
Effective Working
Continual Improvement Is Very Important To The Growing PC Team At Mills & Reeve To Promote Sustained Financial Performance, Client Satisfaction And Sound Commercial Principles. Assisting To Develop Effective Working Is Central To The Core Purpose Of The PC Knowledge Team. This Includes
- Development of a shared approach to advice, implementation and file management
- Involvement in Pricing & Productivity initiatives, including PC financial management and use/monitoring of valuable time
- Involvement in innovation initiatives including use of AI and data gathering/management
The quality of Mills & Reeve\'s technical expertise is seen as a key differentiator in terms of winning high net worth clients and charging premium rates. It is vital for us to ensure that colleagues of all levels can access targeted and high-quality training, and that expertise is captured and shared. A crucial aim is that colleagues gain experience as rapidly as possible both in terms of technicality but also commerciality and client/project management skills.
Key colleagues within the PC team are currently designing a new comprehensive training programme, which will ensure the continuation and expansion of technical excellence now and in the future.
The PC Knowledge Team will work with the PC team leader and experienced consultants to:
- Design the new training programme over the remainder of the 2024/2025 and the 2025/2026 financial years and thereafter maintain the technical content
- Deliver training sessions as appropriate or facilitate the delivery by others
- Work with the central Learning & Development team to ensure PC team training is complementary to the firm-wide training on offer
- Secure external resource as appropriate and manage the training budget
A Key Requirement Of The PC Knowledge Team Is To Ensure That PC Colleagues Have The Necessary Knowledge And Resources To Work Collaboratively, Competitively And Efficiently. This Includes
- Reviewing and researching external private client legal developments including trends, legislative changes and case law and reporting the resulting know-how to the PC team
- Capturing and sharing best practice and know-how arising out of work within PC and from the knowledge sharing relationship with Ten Old Square tax chambers
- Discussing and researching technical points and drafting issues with fee-earners
- Generating and maintaining internal precedents and best practice resources and maintaining effective use of external paid resources such as Westlaw, PLC and Nexis+.
- Assisting the central team with implementing any new knowledge management system and cleansing/categorising resource as necessary
Maintaining And Enhancing The Firm\'s National Reputation Within The Private Wealth Sector Is a Key Part Of Its Strategy To Attract And Retain Clients. The KL May Be Involved In The Following
- Supporting the generation of content to be distributed through the press, blogs, social media, newsletters and other digital channels
- Generating client updates
- Managing and enhancing the PC team pages on Mills & Reeve\'s external website
