Mills & Reeve have an exciting opportunity for a Finance Systems Assistant to join the team in our Cambridge, Birmingham or Manchester offices. If you are looking for your next opportunity in a top 40 national Law firm.

The role

Working in the Finance Systems Team reporting into the Finance Systems Project Manager, this is a key role supporting the business in achieving the firm\’s 2030 strategy to be easy to work with and values driven.

This role is to support the finance team and other business support areas. The key activities will include testing system upgrades and enhancements, developing test scripts and supporting the project management/comms for these projects. You will also be encouraged to identify areas of process improvements (to systems and testing protocols).

The person

The Financial Systems Assistant will be key to facilitating and developing the use of finance systems and technology across the firm, promoting best practice, and supporting training across teams.

With support from the wider Finance Systems Team, you will act as a key liaison between finance, project management, Tech Adoption and IT teams to ensure successful testing and rollout of system upgrades and enhancements.

This is a busy and challenging role and to be successful it is likely that your background and experience will include the following areas of expertise:

  • an understanding of legal finance systems and information;
  • experience in developing testing scripts and knowledge in implementing successful projects;
  • ability to analyse and map processes;
  • knowledge of Practice Management System (PMS) Elite 3E.

The role additionally requires someone who:

  • is proactive, adaptable and has a ‘can-do\’ attitude; a willingness to roll up their sleeves and undertake a range of activities at critical times of the month/year;
  • has an awareness of the importance of data quality and accuracy in financial systems

You will also need to:

  • be willing to travel to the firm\’s other offices as required;
  • be flexible on when you take your annual leave depending on the demands at certain points in the monthly and annual reporting cycles; and
  • be flexible and able to work non-standard hours as the role demands.

Theactivities

The Firm has well-established and experienced finance and IT teams. The Finance Systems Assistant will be part of the finance team and partner with the IT teams and other key stakeholders to support the following.

Develop a detailed knowledge of all finance systems, including:

  • Elite 3E Practice Management System
  • i4G credit control system
  • Dashboards – finance reporting system
  • Cosine matter planning
  • Concur Expense Management
  • ShareDo
  • PowerBI

Finance system upgrades

  • Assist in the planning and successful upgrade of finance systems, to include:
    • Support project planning and coordination activities under the guidance of the Finance Systems Manager or Project Manager
    • Extensive process testing
    • Produce process and user documentation
    • Assist with user and finance training
  • Understand product enhancements, and support teams in maximising these.

Training and support

  • Help maintain training documentation and supports training delivery across all areas owned by the Finance Systems Team.
  • Supporting the training and coaching of the Finance team in best practice and consistent use of our systems on an ongoing basis and assist in the development of an ongoing training programme for new starters in the team for systems relevant to their role.

Other responsibilities

  • Build a network within M&R to support your role and develop your work area.
  • Become a point of contact for the Finance team when there are systems issues, investigate and report these as per the agreed protocols.
  • Perform other work as necessary to assist in meeting firm objectives as delegated by the Financial Systems Manager
