The team is a focused and tight-knit group, working together across multiple locations. What You Will Do
In our practice, a Consulting Actuary is responsible for performing various levels of analysis related to client work. Supporting the Project Managers, the Consulting Actuary reviews work performed by the Actuarial Analysts (such as reviewing data in preparation for analysis, checking data for errors and consistency), conducts complex analysis, and produces reports. Our ideal hire for this role is someone who enjoys thinking critically to solve a client’s business problems; pairs their strong technical skills with creativity; and is adept in independently managing their own workload.
Much of this person’s work will involve complex data manipulation and summarization in Excel, but supplemental programming, statistical, and database skills are highly valued and will open up additional opportunities for impactful client assignments and advancement. Expertise in R is particularly relevant to this position.

Typical Responsibilities In This Role Include

  • Oversee the execution of projects, whether ad hoc or longer-term
  • Write reports and support client communication
  • Direct interaction with client and/or client\’s other vendor partners (e.g., broker, captive manager, auditor)
  • Direct, train and provide guidance to Actuarial Analysts (e.g. data cleaning, checking)
  • Comply with internal quality control, risk management, and peer review guidelines
  • Lead marketing opportunities including publications and presentations
  • Present findings to peers, project managers, and client relationship managers
  • Draft written reports and exhibits, and prepare other internal/external correspondence
  • Write detailed documentation to keep track of how data is compiled for specific projects
  • Implement process improvements to produce better results
  • Perform or assist with other duties assigned at the direction of practice Principals

Professional Qualifications
What We Are Looking For

  • Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS), at the time of application
  • A minimum of four years of professional actuarial fulltime work experience in pricing, reserving, predictive modeling, capital modeling, enterprise risk management, and or reinsurance-related actuarial topics for North American and/or European companies
  • Completed Bachelor’s degree or higher at the time of application, including quantitative coursework in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, etc.
  • Proven proficiency with Excel and Word
  • Mastery of R for statistical modeling

Location
This is a remote position. Candidates hired into this role may work onsite in select Milliman office locations if they prefer. Applicants must be willing to travel to the Milliman Boston office (Wakefield, MA) or Vermont office (Burlington, VT) as needed and travel nationwide for meetings, conferences, and team events (up to 20%).

Compensation
The overall salary range for this role is $107,400 – $247,560. A combination of factors will be considered, including, but not limited to: education (including actuarial exams and credentials), relevant work experience, qualifications, skills, certifications, etc.
For Candidates Residing In

  • Alaska, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, or the District of Columbia:
  • $118,140 – $200,860 if overall experience is less than 10 years; and
  • $133,430 – $226,930 for experience greater than 10 years
  • New York City, Newark, San Jose, or San Francisco:
    • $128,880 – $219,120 if overall experience is less than 10 years; and $145,560 – $247,560 for experience greater than 10 years
  • All other states:
    • $107,400 – $182,600 if overall experience is less than 10 years; and $121,300 – $206,300 for experience greater than 10 years.
