Tech, Data and Innovation

The team supports and enhances all technology‑based services to Miller with the aim of supporting and extending the business’ service range and excellence. Activities are carried out and managed against the Corporate Business Plan and Board/Business Unit priorities.

Role responsibilities

  • Assess Automation Opportunities: Systematically evaluate business processes to identify opportunities for AI and automation that align with our specialty broking business model.
  • Prioritisation & Solution Selection: Rigorously prioritise opportunities, selecting the most appropriate tools and approaches (AI, RPA, etc.) for each use case, ensuring solutions are robust, scalable, and add genuine value.
  • AI vs RPA Myth Busting: Educate stakeholders on the distinctions between AI and RPA, advising on when each should be used, ensuring clarity and dispelling misconceptions.
  • Operationalise Proofs of Concept: Lead the design, trial, and demonstration of proofs of concept with both internal teams and external vendors, fostering a ‘fail fast, learn fast’ culture to accelerate innovation.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Change Management: Engage and influence stakeholders at all levels, championing change and managing resistance. Deliver clear communications and training to support adoption and embed new ways of working.
  • Digital Organisation of the Future: Define the structure of future teams, blending digital and human workforces. Develop job specifications and personas for digital agents, bringing automation to life in a way that fits Miller’s culture.
  • Brand Integrity: Ensure all AI and automation solutions are tailored for Miller’s specialty broking focus and remain aligned with the company’s brand and client service standards.
  • Strategic & Tactical Delivery: Combine ‘hands‑on’ delivery—diving into the detail as required—with strategic leadership to ensure projects are executed successfully and objectives are met.
  • Problem‑led Approach: Champion a rigorous approach to solution design, starting from genuine business problems rather than technology push, and justify all investments with clear business cases.
  • Adoption & Effectiveness Measurement: Define and monitor KPIs to track adoption and effectiveness of automation initiatives, using data to drive continuous improvement.
  • Governance: Establish and maintain a fit‑for‑purpose, light‑touch governance model that ensures structure and risk management while enabling agility and avoiding bureaucracy.
  • Collaboration & Best Practice: Work closely with product teams, operations and front office, leveraging their guidance, sharing learnings, and contributing to Miller’s culture of innovation and cross‑team collaboration.

General

  • Product Lifecycle Management: Own the end‑to‑end product lifecycle for AI and automation initiatives, from ideation and requirements gathering through to implementation, maintenance, and sunset.
  • Market & Technology Awareness: Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of AI, automation, and insurance technology trends, especially as they relate to the London Market and specialty insurance.
  • Vendor & Partner Management: Manage relationships with technology vendors and consultants, ensuring delivery of value and alignment with Miller’s requirements.
