Role Description

As a Family Law Solicitor at Miller Samuel Hill Brown, you will manage a diverse and complex caseload, including:

  • Separation and divorce
  • Cohabitation
  • Child law
  • Adoption
  • Surrogacy
  • Complex financial provision
  • Pre- and post-nuptial contracts

We undertake complex litigation when required but actively support alternative dispute resolution methods, including mediation, FLAGS arbitration, and collaborative law. This position allows you to work closely with experienced senior team members on intricate legal matters while maintaining meaningful interactions with a wide array of clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently manage a broad family law caseload.
  • Provide strategic legal advice across all areas of family law.
  • Represent clients in the Sheriff Court and Court of Session.
  • Draft and negotiate legally binding agreements.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with clients.
  • Supervise and mentor junior team members.
  • Collaborate with internal departments for cross-referrals.
  • Engage in business development through writing, presenting, and networking.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and firm procedures.
  • Handle child-related matters, including residence, contact, and relocation cases.
  • Conduct advocacy and draft pleadings in court proceedings.

About You

  • Qualified solicitor with a minimum of 2 – 3 years of relevant PQE in family law
  • Experience in Court of Session litigation.
  • Proven track record of independently managing a caseload.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • A commercially minded and solution-focused approach to legal advice.
  • A friendly team player with an approachable attitude, eager to embrace new challenges.
